Why HSTEM: Although I did not engage with STEM formally in high school or early college, I now recognize its role in shaping the systemic inequalities I research. My senior thesis examines the experiential dimensions of inequity and the legal structures that sustain it, particularly in education. Through STEM-related research, I analyze how disparities in funding and policy restrict access to STEM fields, reinforcing broader patterns of exclusion. I also critique proposed solutions by scholars, revealing how many fail to address systemic disparities and, in some cases, further entrench them. My thesis culminates in an analysis of the Republican Party’s efforts to dismantle public education, highlighting policy initiatives like Project 2025 and their role in perpetuating these issues. I explore how we might rebuild equitable education systems in the post-Trump era to ensure true accessibility for all students.
