Reimagining the Meiklejohn Fellows Program

Next Steps

1. Share My Findings with Key Stakeholders

  • Who: Loeb Center staff (especially Emily Moreau and Emilia Shaw).
  • How: Prepare a brief executive summary or slide deck presentation outlining:
    • Key data points (quant + qual)
    • Major findings
    • Recommendations
    • Student quotes to humanize the data

Deliverable: Present at an upcoming Loeb Center meeting or request a cross-department working group to review findings.

2. Pilot a Cohort-Based Curriculum Model

  • Action Items:
    • Draft year-specific programming outlines (based on student input)
    • Identify facilitators (Loeb staff, alumni, peer leaders)
    • Integrate into the Loeb Center’s existing event calendar
    • Begin with a 1-year pilot for Class of 2027 or 2028

Deliverable: Draft a semester-by-semester programming plan.

3. Create a Program-Specific FGLI Career Curriculum

  • Why: All 14 survey respondents supported the idea of a curriculum designed specifically for FGLI students, with many requesting sessions on networking, budgeting, post-grad transitions, and demystifying hidden norms.
  • Action Items:
    • Design a flexible, modular curriculum that includes practical and identity-affirming content
    • Align each year’s focus with students’ developmental and professional needs
    • Partner with alumni, faculty, and resource centers to contribute sessions

Deliverable: Develop a curriculum proposal and pilot it in conjunction with the cohort model.

4. Launch a Meiklejohn Student Advisory Board

  • Action Items:
    • Draft a call for applications or nominations
    • Define roles, responsibilities, and expectations
    • Offer onboarding and mentorship for board members
    • Use student leaders to co-design events and peer initiatives

Deliverable: Create and distribute application materials; convene a fall kickoff meeting.

5. Redesign Peer Mentorship Initiative into Flexible, Interest-Based Meet-Ups

  • Action Items:
    • Replace rigid 1:1 pairings with themed community-building events
    • Invite upperclass FGLI students to co-host events (e.g., “S’MORE About Internships”)
    • Offer informal leadership roles with stipends or recognition

Deliverable: Host 1–2 low-stakes events as a pilot and collect participant feedback.

6. Improve Meiklejohn Program Onboarding and Communication

  • Action Items:
    • Create a welcome packet and orientation session for new Fellows
    • Update the Meiklejohn website with clearer FAQ and timeline
    • Send monthly emails with resources, highlights, and open opportunities

Deliverable: Design onboarding slides or handouts and standardize communication schedule.

7. Continue Student-Informed Assessment

  • Action Items:
    • Use surveys or feedback forms after each Meiklejohn event
    • Host informal focus groups with Fellows each semester
    • Maintain regular communication with Loeb staff to adapt programming

Deliverable: Create a yearly assessment plan with built-in feedback loops.

8. Seek Institutional Support and Funding

  • Action Items:
    • Propose modest funding for student advisory board stipends, event snacks, and printed materials
    • Share outcomes with donors who support career equity initiatives

Deliverable: Write a short internal grant or budget proposal.
